Steps to Sustainable and Solution Based Racial Reconciliation - 5/28/2020

This list was compiled as part of a larger book but I felt the need to post it following the murder of George Floyd on Monday May 25, 2020. I pray this will help begin a movement towards tangible changes that are necessary to reconcile racism. Tammy Vallejo

  1. Reconcile this internally until you can honestly say you can see your own part in this. We all have a part to play and if we’re honest with ourselves, it’s there. Implicit Bias, Privilege, Racism, exists. What part do you play? (If you’re unsure of what these terms mean, please look them up!)

  2. Speak up! Your voice might be the voice that matters. That stops the violence. That helps someone else understand. Silence speaks complacency. When good people don’t do anything about evil, evil wins.

  3. There are many posts with books, articles, movies and information on this topic. Educate yourself.

  4. Look around your tables of leadership. If it is not diverse, change it today. We all have blinders. You need people of color, women and generations to look like and lead like heaven. If the picture you’re putting up for your team, your church, you’re friends is not diverse, think about why and do something about it.

  5. Many of our Leaders of Color have Businesses, Churches, Ministries, etc. and are leading movements for change. Take out your wallet and sow generous seeds into that! They know what they need and in many cases are already working on it. If you need ideas PM me.

  6. Please do not forget this next week. Enough talking has happened. Please take an action step and take one that will last for at least one year. Yep one year minimum.

  7. If you’re someone with influence open a door for a person of color and stay with it as needed for at least a year!! Locking arms with people on a level playing field is incredibly empowering!

  8. Spirit led prayer for justice and reconciliation. Crying out for God to help us do what’s necessary for our brothers and sisters of color and the systems that continue to perpetuate these injustices.
